NOAHS STORY: Noah is my 6 year old Miracle baby who happens to be HF (high functioning) Autistic, which means on the large spectrum of Autism Noah places on the higher functioning end. Noahs my Miracle baby because of how hard he had to fight to make it from the start. Noah started off as a twin until I reached my second trimester and his twin demised but kept him company throughout the duration, I was in a car accident, and high risk throughout the pregnancy. When Noah was born the only thing noticeable was nerve damage on the left side of his face causing it to look as if the right side sags/droops when he cries or laughs, similar to Sylvester Stallone but that was it. So hes my Miracle baby. Noah developed at a rapid pace having 8 teeth by 7 months, walking by 8 months with no support and saying clear words such as, mommy, daddy, nanny and bottle(byow). While Noah was exceeding these milestones there was something else brewing. First his sleep habits changed and he was sleeping less at night, he preferred to be in his stroller or walker -vs- being held or cuddled, when he looked at you it was as if he was looking through you or past you and I would say, because he was a good judge of character, that he was looking into your soul, and he had to have a 100% cotton sock with a certain rimmed stitching to rub on his face or suck on ( he was never a pacifier baby), it got to the point where he had to have a sucky sock no matter what in order to do just about anything. Then, Noah wasn’t talking as clear then all of a sudden his words were gone, he stopped talking. I took Noah to see our doctor for a well baby visit and he’s asking questions as he does his examination and I’m telling about the changes then he told me he believed Noah had Autism. I didn’t know when Noah seemed to look through you it was because he couldn’t look directly at you or why my baby would run away if the television freezes and it happens to be on a close-up of someone’s face, I didn’t know, that the Sucky Sock was a sign of sensory/texture issue, I didn’t know my baby’s lack of rest or need to be independent and distant not wanting to be held or even his early desire to walk were ALL early signs of Autism that doesn’t always show that early in age. I didn’t know it was Autism that took my babies words away. I didn’t know when my doctor told me he believed Noah may be Autistic was a true BLESSING and the best information he could have given me. I only wish I knew then what I know now. That Special Doctor whom I’d had when I was a child is named Dr. Stanley Poleck whom unfortunately not long after had to retire due to having a massive heart attack before Noah could receive his final diagnosis. To be continued.....
