NOT AS INTENSE A STORM AS FORECASTED, BUT VERY INTENSE COMPETITION! In what must rank as one of the closest crosses after 11 days of ocean racing... Dongfeng opted to hold their northerly gybe longer than the leading trio, and as a result ended up crossing the track of Brunel - thereby confirming their place back in top 3. The maths of waypoint calculations means that the westerly boats have an advantage on the leaderboard, but Dongfeng gybed a few hours later to hold the most easterly position in the fleet. Since they saw Brunel had already gybed to north west, its clear that they knew they wanted to stay further east as otherwise they would have flipped over to follow them after such a close visual encounter. As the fleet sails in to lighter winds to the north of the depression, lets see who is right. The African Piracy exclusion zone has effectively become a mark of the course now with routings showing the fleet literally zig-zagging up the forbidden zone line to the north of them.
