NOT many people read THE ECONOMIST. I recall how a former next door neighbour who worked in their PR department often shared his worry that the lack of interest in that publication was a major cause of concern for the organisation. The dwindling numbers of subscribers was so alarming they had a quiet drive for free subscriptions just to help keep the number quotes up and attract adverts. This earned us free supplies of the news magazine for sometime. The Economist is among the league of journals which pioneered niche journalism and really ought to be preserved. It is unfortunate that it might need to veneer into the path of laundry to survive the crises posed by electronic media. Just thinking ..wistfully.. of when glory days become over for one time institutions and dealing with it.
