NOT the test results we were hoping for - a BK virus was detected in Josies blood at double the level from 2 weeks ago. This BK virus that will always be in Josies system now - and will be always be monitored more frequently with labs. We must try to lower and then control the level of this virus in Josies bloodstream by first changing and reducing our antirejection med combination (3 meds) to allow her body to fight the virus and then reintroduce the stronger antirejection meds back into her system and keep both levels in a safe place for Miss Josie. Most importantly we have to allow her body to fight the virus quickly and NOT push her body into rejecting our kidney - AND not allow the virus to damage our kidney. Plan A: many changes coming into the works starting with tomorrow 7:30 a.m. meds - repeat labs in 2 weeks. Positive: NO fight from insurance company and new antirejection med is ready to be picked up locally!! (Guess they love that the new med is MUCH cheaper than the other med.) Since this a.m., Ive turned to many of my Kidney Mom Warriors and have found much reassurance that this virus can be controlled - in some kids way more easily than others - some with rejection and damage, some with no harm done. Doc reassured me that Josie & I were a 5 out of 6 match with our kidney - and that means a great deal in this situation....I AM HOLDING ON TO THIS FACT!!! Taking a deep breath....entering into new territory in Josies World...but trying to remain realistic and thankful for I know this could be a much, much serious life threatening situation - praying for so many other kids & families fighting through many other unthinkable situations.
