NOTICE OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE SANTA MONICA COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN Annual Retreat August 3, 2013 – 9:00am – 1:30 pm Ken Edwards Center ♦ 1527 4th St ♦ Santa Monica ♦ CA, 90401 Mission The purpose of the Commission on the Status of Women is to enhance the status of women in our community. The Commission will promote these goals through investigation of, advocacy for, and policy development regarding issues relevant to women and girls, and by creating leadership and career advancement opportunities for women and girls in our community. Standards of Behavior that Promote Civility at All Public Meetings: •Treat everyone courteously •Focus on the issues and avoid personalizing debate •Listen to others respectfully •Embrace respectful disagreement and dissent as democratic rights, inherent components of an inclusive public process, and tools for forgoing sound decisions Notice is hereby given that a Special Meeting of the Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, beginning at 9:00 A.M., at Ken Edwards Center, to discuss the following business: 1. Call to Order Roll Call (9:00-9:05) 2. Reception, discussion and possible action on Women History Month 2014 and establishing an ad hoc planning committee for March 2014 (Chair Goeke) (40:00) 3. Recognition of outgoing Commissioners Amy Bishop Dunbar, Ana Jara and Autumn Peebles (10:00) 4. Approval of Minutes from Meeting July 10, 2013 (2:00) 5. Candidate presentations for Unscheduled Vacancy. Each speaker is limited to two minutes. (20:00) 6. Rosie’s Girls Liaison Update (5:00) 7. Public Input: Public comment is permitted only on items on the agenda that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the COSW. The Commission is restricted to hearing public comments on items listed on the agenda. Please note that State Law prohibits the COSW from taking any action on items not listed on the agenda, including issues raised under this agenda item. A chit should be completed indicating items for public input. Each speaker is limited to three (3) minutes 8. Commissioner and Staff Liaison updates and announcements (5:00) 9. Discussion of candidate interviews and action on recommendation to City Council on appointment to Commission on Status of Women for one unscheduled vacancy and two vacancies beginning July 1, 2013 (30:00) 12.
