NOVEMBER 1977 (37 YEARS AGO) Steely Dan: Peg b/w I Got The News (ABC AB-12320) 45 single is released in the US. Peg is a song by Steely Dan that was released as a single from their 1977 album Aja. It, like many Steely Dan songs from the period, blends rock with jazz and R&B elements. The song reached number 11 in the Billboard charts in 1978, and number eight on the Cash Box chart. The songs guitar solo was attempted by seven top session guitarists, including Robben Ford, before Jay Graydons version became the keeper. He worked on the song for about 6 hours before the band was satisfied. Rick Marotta played drums on the track. Michael McDonald can be heard providing multi-tracked backup vocals in the choruses; keyboardist Paul Griffin can also be heard improvising background vocals in the final chorus and fadeout.
