NOW IT CAN BE TOLD, JET LAG WAS THE CULPRIT; MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL DART LOVERS! Christian Perez was not offering any excuses for his defeat in the preliminary round of the ongoing World Darts Championship in London other than the fact that he lost to Spain’s top darter Cristo Reyes who played better than him on that day. However, the PDC South Asia qualifier who we saw playing against the Spain’s top darter on the first day of the world’s most prestigious event was not the same Christian “The Titan” Perez that we knew, who would stand at the oche with confidence, and shoot his darts rapidly with ease and accuracy. The player throwing his darts at the stage was completely the opposite of Perez at the time. Perez was clearly suffering from jet lag and experiencing physical and emotional symptoms during the game as he looked irritable, tired, drowsy, nervous and slightly disoriented. He traveled more than 14 hours by plane and had at least three days to shrug off the jet lag, but it clearly showed that he was still suffering from it on the day of the tournament. When I first talked to Perez a day after he arrived in London, he told me that he woke up at 3AM and had a hard time getting a sleep. Actually, Perez was not able to sleep the night before his game as he was still suffering from sleep disorder, which is also known as jet lag. Logic now dictates that our next qualifier to the World Darts Championship which is held annually in London must travel early or have at least 10 days to shrug off the jet lag and acclimatise with the possible differences in temperature, humidity, altitude and food. This will entail bigger budget on the part of the player but it’s worth it.
