NPHS grad who lost cancer battle to be remembered Saturday By ANNE KLOCKENKEMPER Staff Writer NORTH PORT — Noah Montgomery, 18, who graduated from North Port High School earlier this year as a member of the class of 2014, has passed away after a battle with cancer. He died Dec. 10 as a result of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he had been fighting for two years. NPHS principal David Jones had nothing but wonderful things to say about Noah, and challenged anyone to find a photo of the young man where he wasn’t smiling. “What a wonderful, wonderful kid. You talk about someone that was always positive, always upbeat, and never gave off a ‘why me’ or ‘woe is me’ attitude. Noah was amazing,” Jones said. A member of the NPHS Chorus, Noah was voted homecoming king in 2013 by the student body. He also spoke at the baccalaureate prayer service held the week of graduation. “He made it to graduation last (school) year, and that was a struggle,” Jones said, adding while Noah was undergoing treatment and couldn’t attend school, they set up technology that allowed him to view his classes while he was away from campus. “He was well-loved.” In addition to NPHS, Noah attended Genesis Christian School in Port Charlotte and Woodland Middle School in North Port. According to family members, in Noah’s earlier years he received trophies in all different sports, but what he enjoyed doing most was playing video games and singing. He was involved with chorus and theater and into keyboard — anything musical involving his friends by his side made him happiest. He is survived by his parents, three brothers and other extended family members. A celebration of Noah’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at South Biscayne Church, 13000 Tamiami Trail in North Port. Email: annek@sun-herald
