NSC to allocate Rs 45m for separate ground in Mulpani. HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE KATHMANDU: The National Sports Council (NSC) is planning to lay a solid foundation for Nepali cricket by allocating up to Rs 45 million from the sports budget for another cricket ground in Mulpani. While another ambitious plan — Mulpani Cricket Stadium — still remains an unfinished business after its work began six years earlier‚ NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama said operation of both the projects will be smooth from this year. Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had planned to construct two grounds in Mulpani after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chose Nepal as the venue for its central cricket Academy in 2004. ACC‚ however‚ pulled back the project later on technical grounds leaving Nepal to take alternative step — constructing a cricket stadium. “We will set aside Rs 40 million to Rs 45 million from sports budget in the new fiscal year and begin the work on the new ground. Also any stalled work on the Mulpani Cricket Stadium will resume once we release the previously allocated budget‚” Lama said. According to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) member Kiran Rana‚ the second land which is few metres away from the Mulpani Cricket Stadium will see an international standard cricket ground with hi-tech facilities if it gets proper budget and planning from the government. “At the initial phase‚ NSC will help us in the levelling and fencing of the ground‚” added Rana. To assist CAN in the Mulpani Cricket Stadium‚ member secretary Lama has assured the cricket governing body of releasing a budget of five million rupees in due course. NSC had separated a budget of three million for the Mulpani Cricket Stadium and two million for a ground in Bhairahawa. But‚ after a meeting with the CAN officials last week following the national team’s unprecedented success in the WCL Division-III‚ NSC has decided to divert the two million rupees separated for Bhairahawa to Mulpani project instead. “The member secretary has told us to remain focused on Mulpani project for the time being. So‚ a new budget will be allocated for construction of the ground in Bhairahawa in near future‚” informed Rana. Lama said the CAN will begin constructing parapet at the Mulpani Cricket Stadium along with players’ box in the initial phase. “We have targeted to make the Mulpani Cricket Stadium able to hold cricketing activities within the next six months‚” informed Rana
