NSCDC Saves Rapist From Roasting But for the swift intervention of the Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, the aggrieved people of Ubegwu in Agbenyim community of Izzi Local Government Area would have roasted a notorious rapist accused of defiling minors in the area to death. Peter Edigbo, 64, was accused of defiling a 6yr old girl, (names withdheld by us), who alleged that the former came around where she was sleeping for two days and had carnal knowledge of her. Investigations by Orient Daily reveal that the accused Peter, allegedly a notorious rapist was said to have been warned repeatedly by the members of the community to desist from such act as a source alleged that other little girls from the community also had testified that Peter had done similar thing to them in the past. The community members who were said to have earlier warned the accused rapist to desist from the act after the recent incident met and took a decision to execute their plan saying that since he (Peter) had refused to heed to their warning, he should have nothing to do with the community. A community source said, “On Sunday, the villagers deliberated on the matter. The council of elders met and at the end, they concluded that the man did the act and that he was into the act. Some women examined the small child and they confirmed it.” “Information from the villagers confirmed that the man has been into the act and he has been cautioned by the villagers that anytime he is found wanting that they will make sure that he has nothing to do with the village.” Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki on how the command botched the plot of the community to set the accused rapist ablaze, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nwali Emmanuel said that through the application of the law, they prevented the community from taken the man’s life and he was rescued. According to Nwali, “Yesterday at about 1800hrs, we had a signal from one of our divisions in the State, Izzi division located at Izzi local government area that there is an aged man that defiled a girl of about six years.” “When we got that report, we told them to transfer the case to the State headquarters. The said man by name Mr. Peter Edigbo about 64 years hails from Ubegwu in Agbenyim in Izzi Local government area of Ebonyi State.” “Because the law is there, we did not give them the opportunity to take the man’s life because they had wanted to burn him but we rescued his life and now we are investigating and after investigation, we are going to handover to the appropriate authority.” “The name of the victim is (names withheld by us). She is about six years old. The little girl confirmed that in the midnight, the man comes to sleep around and that this is the second time the man has done such by putting one big thing inside her body, that is what the girl said and that at the end, she will start feeling something that is wet around her or water that is pouring around her that she does not know what it is and she screamed then people came around her.” In an interview with our correspondent, Peter who denied the accusation of raping the girl said that he was impotent that when he went to marry in 2012, the woman whose hand he demanded for in marriage rejected the offer on the ground that he was impotent. He also added that he had been on medication so that he could restore his potency even as he alleged that the rape case he was accused of was a frame up because he is having a land dispute with one of the councillors from the community.
