NSE to Advise FG on Revamping of Railway Sector Patrick Ugeh in Abuja (THISDAY) The Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE) has set up a committee to make recommendations that will help the federal government in revamping the railway sector. To accomplish this goal, the groups president, Ademola Olorunfemi, has paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, (NRC), where he said he had fruitful discussions on areas of collaboration with the management. Disclosing these at NSEs first quarterly dinner for 2014 in Abuja, Olorunfemi said the report of the committee was being fine-tuned before it would be presented- to the government. The NSE boss also announced that the Society was strengthening its collaboration with government, private and international organisations in line with the current trend of partnership building as a veritable tool for development. To this end, he disclosed that they were collaborating with Small and Medium En¬terprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN; National Power Training Institute of Nigeria, NAPTIN; and Agricultural & Equipment Fabrication Association of Nigeria as part of efforts to improve the countrys infrastructure. He announced that preparations to host the World Federation of Engineering Or¬ganisations (WFEO) summit (WECSI 2014) slated for Abuja from November 2-7 were on course. To encourage its members to give their best in building structures that will develop the country, the body also conferred its Fellowship on 13 of its distinguished members. Olorunfemi described the honour as a wake-up call to the recipients and a tonic to galvanise them to increase their interest and contribution to the growth and development of the engineering profession and the nation at large. He urged them not to see the conferment as an end in itself but an opportunity to be of greater service to the NSE, supporting its projects and programmes and lending a voice to its activities. I therefore charge you to see yourselves as worthy ambassadors of NSE, especially at this time in our history when we are on a threshold of self-discovery, Olorunfemi said.
