NSW/ACT Severe Weather Warning Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the Snowy Mountains forecast district Issued at 11:34 pm EST on Friday 19 July 2013. DAMAGING WINDS FOR ALPINE AREAS Weather Situation A low pressure trough and associated cold front are moving across New South Wales today, bringing vigorous north to northwesterly winds. Damaging winds to 90 km/h with peak gusts to 120 km/h are expected over parts of the Snowy Mountains forecast district above 1900 metres overnight. Thredbo Automatic Weather Station has reported mean wind speeds of 90 km/hr and gusts to 110 km/h today. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
