NSW Police Force is joining Police and Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) for a special fundraising initiative to raise funds and awareness to help stop youth crime. Now in its fourth year, ‘Time4Kids’ will see more than 120 local PCYCs across five states and territories participate throughout April with the goal of raising more than $750,000. Some of Australia’s leading business, entertainment, sporting and community personalities will be locked up in mock gaol cells. Each ‘prisoner’ must raise bail through donations from family, friends, colleagues and members of the community to be set free. Police from Youth Command will be on-hand at local events to assist with guarding and releasing ‘prisoners’ as they reach their target bail. All funds raised will be used to support the work of youth development and crime prevention programs for kids ‘at risk’ and young offenders. Commander of the Major Events and Incidents Group, Assistant Commissioner Alan Clarke, will oversee the City of Sydney PCYC event at Martin Place today (Friday 4 April 2014). He will be joined by volunteer ‘prisoners’, Brad Fittler, Commando Steve, Mark Bouris and many others, who will take turns doing time between 7am and 4pm. Assistant Commissioner Clarke said Time4Kids is a great opportunity for the community to get involved and support the work of PCYC. “NSW Police Force has forged a close partnership with PCYC and for more than 75 years, have helped provide young people with a safe and positive alternative to the streets,” Assistant Commissioner Clarke said. “The Time4Kids events are a fun way for the community to help raise funds for their local PCYC, which will help develop skills, character and leadership in young people. “By encouraging young people to act with integrity and have respect, commitment and resilience, it helps reduce and prevent crime by and against young people. “We all share the responsibility of addressing the issues they face and I urge everyone to help make a difference and keep our kids happy, healthy and out of trouble,” Assistant Commissioner Clarke said.
