NSW Police are investigating after an elderly woman’s handbag was taken by a man who got into her vehicle in the state’s north yesterday. About 10am (Friday 24 October 2014), a 78-year-old woman returned to her Banora Point home and drove into her garage, after being at a bank at a shopping centre in Tweed Heads. As she was still sitting in the driver’s seat, a man got into the car and sat in the passenger’s seat. Police have been told the man had a short conversation with the woman, before grabbing her handbag and getting out of the car. He then got into the passenger’s seat of a vehicle that was waiting out the front, which drove away. The woman, who was not injured in the incident, contacted police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command. They conducted patrols of the area, but did not locate the vehicle involved. The man has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, with an olive complexion, about 30 years of age, about 175cm tall, with a thin build, wearing a red t-shirt and a baseball cap. The vehicle is described as a grey Kia Sportage with QLD registration 668-TUB. Police believe the same people may be responsible for a number of similar offences in Queensland. Anyone with information about the identity of those involved is urged to come forward via Crime Stoppers, where information can be provided anonymously. If the vehicle is sighted, people are urged not to approach it, but to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately. Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
