Current Situation The fire is burning in a northerly direction in the area of Camden Valley Way and Bringelly Road at Leppington. The fire is burning towards Bringelly Road. Homes in the area around West Hoxton may come under threat. An emergency telephone warning has been sent. Advice If the fire impacts on your property, seek shelter. Watch and Act - Ruttleys Road Fire (Wyong LGA) 18/10/13 15:30 Posted: 18/10/2013 The Ruttleys Road Fire is being downgraded from Emergency Warning to Watch and Act. Current Situation Firefighters are getting the upper hand on the Ruttleys Road Fire and putting in good containment lines along Flowers Drive and the Pacific Highway. The threat of ember attack has also recently reduced. Community Meetings For residents of Gwandalan and Summerland Point a Community Meeting will be held at the Gwandalan Bowling Club, Gamban Road 4:00pm TODAY. For residents of Cave Beach, Murrays Beach and the surrounding areas will be held at the Swansea Workers Club, 9 Rawson Street 6:00pm TODAY. The fire is out of control and has burnt more than 2000 hectares. Firefighters are underaking back burning operations around Nords Wharf, Crangan Bay Road and Cams Wharf Road. Residents in the area can expect to see increased smoke and fire activity. There are believed to be a number of homes and structures destroyed in this fire, including in the Catherine Hill Bay area. Firefighters are conducting backburning operations where possible. During these operations, people in the area will see an increase in fire and smoke. Only call Triple Zero if you see a fire without a fire truck in attendance. Advice Conditions may be changing. Continue to monitor the situation and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. School Closures The Department of Eduction has advised that all Public Schools in the areas between Nords Wharf and Lake Munmorah are closed. These include: Nords Wharf Public School Gwandalan Public School Lake Munmorah Public School Lake Munmorah High School St Brendans Catholic School The following schools are OPEN: Belmont High School Hunter Sports High School Swansea High School Belmont Christian School Road Closures Due to bush fire activity there are numerous road closures. Please also be aware that road closures may occur without notice. These closures will continue to be assessed across the day, however, there is no forecast as to when these roads will reopen. Motorists are urged to avoid all bushfire affected areas. The Pacific Highway remains closed between Swansea and Lake Munmorah. Swansea Bridge is open in both directions so motorists can travel north/south across the lake. Richardson Road in Raymond Terrace between Benjamin Lee Drive and Medowie Road. Masonite Road between Pacific Highway and Cabbage Tree Road. Cabbage Tree Road between Masonite Road and Nelson Bay Road Tomago Road at Old Punt Road. Public Transport Closures As a result of the Pacific Highway closure bus passengers can use their tickets on NSW Trains between Wyong and Newcastle. Additionally Newcastle Buses tickets can be used on Busways services between Wyong and Doyalson and Busways tickets can be used on Newcastle Buses throughout the region. Buses will also not be operating to those schools listed as closed. Busways route 97 will continue to operate to Mannering Park and Wyee. Busways route 98 services have been cancelled. Busways route 99 between Lake Haven and Charlestown will operate via a diversion through Speers Point in both directions. Newcastle Buses route 352 services have been cancelled. Emergency Warning - Linksview Road Fire, Springwood (Blue Mountains) 18/10/13 14:18 Posted: 18/10/2013 An Emergency Warning is in place for the area around Chapman Parade at Springwood due to fire activity. Current Situation The Linksview Road Fire has flared up around Chapman Parade at Springwood. We have now confirmed that students at Springwood High School are being relocated to Faulconbridge Public School. Springwood High School may come under ember attack later today and firefighters are prepared to undertake property protection. People in the area around Chapman Parade and Grose Road should be aware of burning embers. An Emergency Alert telephone warning has been sent to people and homes in the area. This fire has already affected areas around Winmalee, Warrimoo and Yellow Rock. The southerly change also pushed the fire further north into Winmalee and Hawkesbury Heights. Yesterday the fire jumped the Nepean River and burnt in the Penrith Lakes area however thanks to the hard work of firefighters this has since been contained. Firefighters are continuing to patrol and monitor this area. Multiple properties have been destroyed in this fire, in the dozens, if not hundreds. Building Impact Analysis teams will be inspecting the area today to confirm losses. Advice People in the area around Chapman Parade and Grose Road should be aware of burning embers. Put out any spot fires which start around your property. Seek shelter if the fire impacts on your property. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Residents of Springwood, Mt Riverview, Winmalee and Faulconbridge should continue to monitor the conditions in their area. There are numerous road closures throughout the fire affected areas. Due to ongoing fire activity, residents of fire affected areas should not expect to return to their homes for some time. Watch and Act - State Mine Fire (Lithgow and Blue Mountains) 18/10/13 14:36 Posted: 18/10/2013 A large bush fire is burning between Lithgow and Bilpin. Current Situation The fire has burnt over a large area from near Lithgow towards Bilpin and Mountain Lagoon. The fire burnt very quickly yesterday, burning through more than 24,000 hectares. Fire is burning on both sides of Mount Irvine Road. More than 100 firefighters are on scene. A number of properties have been reported destroyed in this fire. The Great Western Highway has reopened between Mount York Road and Coxs River Road at Mount Victoria. Advice Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution through the area and allow additional travel time. While fire activity has decreased, people along the Bells Line of Road should be aware of fire burning in the area. Continue to monitor the situation. If the fire threatens your property, seek shelter immediately to protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Watch and Act - Hank St Fire (Heatherbrae) 18/10/13 15:29 Posted: 18/10/2013 The Hank Street Fire is burning in the Heatherbrae area. The fire is not contained. Current Situation The Hank Street Fire has been burning under difficult weather conditions and has burnt over 4,700 hectares of bushland. This fire is still very active and is currently burning in the area of Lisadell Road. More than 80 firefighters are on scene. Where conditions allow crews have been conducting backburning behind homes in Tomago Road. Advice The fire has burnt along Richardson Road, Medowie Road, Grahamstown Road, Lisadell Road, Ferodale Road, Hank Street and Tomago Road. Residents from Salt Ash, Fullerton Cove and Nelson Bay Road are now able to return to their properties. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, ensure you know what you will do if the fire threatens your property. The following evacuation centres are now closed Tomaree Sports Club, Nelson Bay Road, Nelson Bay Wests Mayfield, 32 Industrial Road, Mayfield Road Closures and Transport There are many roads closed in the area including Richardson Road, Cabbage Tree Road, Masonite Road and Tomago Road. Check livetraffic for information. The Pacific Highway has re-opened in both directions with a speed limit of 60km/h. Medowie Road East from Richardson Road to Nelson Bay Road is now open. Watch and Act - Hall Road Fire, Balmoral Village (Southern Highlands / Wollondilly) 18/10/13 15:02 Posted: 18/10/2013 A fire is continuing to burn near the villages of Balmoral, Yanderra, Bargo, Pheasants Nest and Wilton in the Southern Highlands. Current Situation An uncontained fire has crossed Picton Road and is burning within the Sydney Catchment area near Macarthur Drive, Wilton. The fire has burnt approximately 8,000 hectares. Over 60 firefighters are on scene. The fire has crossed the railway line where it crosses the freeway at Yerrinbool - the rail line has been closed. Advice There are reports of ash and smoke are drifting into Mittagong however there is no threat to Mittagong at this stage. Continue to monitor the situation closely. Significant back burning is underway and will be for days to come. This will produce significant amounts of smoke. There will be increased activity from both ground and air crews. Some of this burning is very close to residential buildings. Crews are working to have containment lines in place before the arrival of warm, windy weather forecast for Sunday. Community Meeting: Wilton A meeting will be held at 7pm tonight at Wilton Community Hall - Broughton Street, Wilton If you live in Yanderra Residents are now able to return to their properties via Tylers Road. Yanderra Public School will be closed tomorrow (Friday 18 October 2013). If you live in Balmoral or Bargo Residents are now able to return to their properties. Significant backburing operations will take place around Bargo. The evacuation centre at Brethren Church, Wonga Road, Picton is now CLOSED. If you live in Yerinbool or Hill Top Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan and prepare for a bush fire in your area. If your plan is to leave, or you are not prepared, leave early. Well prepared and actively defended homes can offer safety during the fire. School Closures The following school in the Yanderra area will be closed on Friday 18 October: Yanderra Public School Road and Transport Closures Picton Road is closed between Macarthur Road and the M1 Princes Mortorway (Mount Ousley Road) and is likely to remain closed for up to 3 days. Watch and Act - Mount York Road, Mt Victoria Fire (Blue Mountains) 18/10/13 14:55 Posted: 18/10/2013 A fire is burning near Mount York Road at Mount Victoria in the upper Blue Mountains. Current Situtation The fire is burning into the Kanimbla Valley. The fire activity is centred around Mount Victoria. There is no fire activity in Blackheath. The fire has not crossed the Great Western Highway to the west. The Great Western Highway is currently open. There is significant smoke throughout the area from Katoomba to Glenbrook and beyond. Advice Monitor the situation. Ensure you know what you will do if the situation changes. If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, know what you will do if the fire threatens your property. Well prepared and actively defended homes can offer safety during the fire. Community Meeting A community meeting will be held at the Mount Victoria Public School at 7:30pm TONIGHT. Advice - Mount Tangory Fire (Singleton) 18/10/13 11:28 Posted: 18/10/2013 A bush fire burning in the area of Tangory Mountain, 15 km east of Singleton has been downgraded from Watch and Act, to Advice. Current Situation Firefighters are working under calm weather conditions to ensure that the Mount Tangory Fire remains within its containment lines. There is no immediate threat to properties. The fire has burnt down to the Sandy Waterholes Creek and is approximately 300 metres from Cranky Corner Road. Advice Monitor conditions in your area. Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.
