#NT #Weather #Corp Coastal Waters Wind Warning For offshore waters from Cape Wessel to Cape Shield Issued at 11:37 am CST on Sunday 9 March 2014 Synoptic Situation At 9:30 am CST a Tropical Cyclone Gillian was located within 25 nautical miles of 12.4 S 140.1 E about 195 nautical miles east of Nhulunbuy and 105 nautical miles west of Weipa with central pressure 995 hectopascals, moving south at 8 knots. Centre forecast to be within 75 nautical miles of 13.6 S 140.5 E about 230 nautical miles east southeast of Nhulunbuy at 9:30 am CST Monday. Gale Warning Within 90 nautical miles in NE quadrant and within 75 nautical miles in SE quadrant and within 75 nautical miles in SW quadrant and within 90 nautical miles in NW quadrant Clockwise winds 34/40 knots affecting far offshore waters in the Northwest Gulf of Carpentaria in the next 12 hours as the cyclone moves further south. Scattered squalls to 55 knots. Seas to 4 metres on a 3 metre westerly swell. Strong Wind Warning Elsewhere from Cape Wessel to Cape Shield.... Southwest to southeast winds 20/30 knots offshore. Scattered squalls to 45 knots. Seas rising to 3 metres. These conditions should persist for at least another 48 hours. The next warning will be issued by 2:00 PM CST. Please be aware Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here, and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.
