NTV NEWS UPDATE BETTY BIGOMBE Betty Bigombe has received the French Legion of Order Award. She was recognized for her participation in peace talks with the LRA leader Joseph Kony during the insurgency in northern Uganda. From March 2004 to 2005, Bigombe was the chief mediator in a new peace initiative with the Lords Resistance Army, bringing Ugandan government ministers and rebel leaders together. The last meeting on April 20, 2005. However, the failure of the Bigombe mediation is seen as laying the groundwork for the 2006–2007 Juba talks, which were mediated by the government of South Sudan. The French National Order of the legion of honour was instituted by Napoleon to create a reward to commend civilians and soldiers in and outside France.
