NUER AND DINKA PASTORS FORM ALLIANCE TO WORK FOR PEACE AND RECONCILIATION Juba - The pastors of the two largest tribes, Dinka and Nuer have come up to form an adhoc committee for peace and reconciliation between the two communities. The committee called the Committee for National Healing and Reconciliation (CNHR) held a two day workshop started from 14-15 of March 2014 in Juba for bringing together pastors from Dinka and Nuer tribes to discuss ways of coming together and establish an alliance that will lead to process of peace and reconciliation among the two communities. Daniel Deng Bol Chairperson of Committee of National Healing and Reconciliation said: “we rejected the war that alleged to be between Dinka and Nuer, is not our war, is not war between Nuer and Dinka, its political issue and we should not be party to this” “we as church we are saying we don’t want our people to die for nothing, and we want to tell you we are here to build the trust among ourselves and among our people in this country and we wanted to warn our people that people have been kill even pastors in differences places and this is against the God will” Said Bol. He added: we want you please to begin the trust now, we know yes we kill one another, Nuer were kill by Dinka and Dinka were kill by Nuer all this no one will deny this, but can we dwelling on this or we move ahead, so we are asking you please let us move ahead let us trust one another. Meanwhile Rev. James Par Tap said that the pastors are praying to have trust between the communities of South Sudan and their stand as church is to say no to war. “we have started talking to one another and we have learned that people have taken the conflict as between Nuer and Dinka and that make the two communities to look at each other’s as enemy and thats why we decided to remove this ideology and build the trust between the people affected by the conflict” said Tap. The pastors in their two days discussion have agreed on the modalities that should facilitate the process of peace and reconciliation. First the pastors agreed to form an adhoc committee that will lead the process of peace and reconciliation among Nuer and Dinka communities and will comprise of seven members and the pastors agreed to lead peaceful marching in Juba and other area to denounce use of violence as means to resolve political differences. The pastors also agreed to meet the government officials living in UNMISS camps and encourage them to leave the camps as a way of building trust within the people and pave way for reconciliation and national healing and they also agreed to send a joint delegation to meet the president, National Ministers and MPS in National legislative Assembly and council of state on peace and reconciliation agenda, ensuring the security for all citizens including all those in the IDP camps. The pastors also resolved that they should visit people in the IDP camps and different communities across all the ten states to show their solidarity and preach the spirit of peace and reconciliation. The Committee for National Healing, Peace and Reconciliation has taken note of the concerns and resolution of the church leaders from the two communities of Nuer and Dinka and will work upon them to ensure success in its quest for a nationwide peace and reconciliation process and will support and facilitate the adhoc committee formed by the pastors to lead the process of peace and reconciliation.
