NUGGETS FOR TODAY What Do You Have? In today’s society most people are concerned about what they can receive for themselves. The Scriptures teach us that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” When we speak of giving it goes far beyond money. We need to learn to give of ourselves. In Acts 3:4-8 we find that Peter and John went into the temple to pray. There was a lame man sitting at the gate begging alms. He expected to receive money but received his healing. Acts 3:6 “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” What do you have to offer someone else? In order to give something away you must first possess it. What do you have spiritually? Peter and John knew that they could not perform this miracle in themselves. They realized that they had power inside of them, and they had power in the name of Jesus. God’s Spirit living in you gives the same power that Peter and John had. Do you have God’s Spirit living in you? Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” There is power in the name of Jesus, and as His children we need to use this name. Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” You have the authority to use His name. John 14:12-14 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” David fought against the giant and won the battle. David knew what he possessed. 1 Samuel 17:37 “David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.” Saul armed David with his armour, but David took it off. He had not proved it, and he knew that he must use something that he was familiar with. 1 Samuel 17:39-40 “And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherds bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:45 “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.” What do you have? You can have the desires of your heart. What do you desire? Have A Blessed Day In Jesus! Pastor: Virgil Gibson
