NURSES’ RUDENESS A PERENIAL PROBLEM – KASONDE HEALTH minister Dr Joseph Kasonde says the rudeness of nurses at the University Teaching Hospital and other health institutions is a perennial problem that needs everyone’s effort to address. Dr Kasonde said it was wrong for nurses to be rude as that was against their training and ethics. “Nurses are wrong if they are rude because it’s against training and ethics of medical practice,” he said during a briefing on health services for Lusaka District PF members. Dr Kasonde was responding to a question from one of the participants who wanted to know why nurses at UTH continued to be rude when handling patients and what the government was doing to address the problem. “I think we must work together and clear the miscommunication that is there and we are trying to teach our nurses how to relate with society,” he said. Dr Kasonde said the government was improving doctors’ salaries and other conditions of service as a way to retain them in the country after training. He said the government could only improve conditions to enable doctors get attracted and stay and would not stop them if they wished to leave. Dr Kasonde further said the government was strengthening medical stores to ensure adequate medicines got to the rural areas. He said since his party came into power, it had procured a lot of medical equipment, among them 160 ordinary ambulances and 42 specialised Intensive Care Unit ambulances. Dr Kasonde was invited at the Lusaka district PF meeting which was held at National Project for Poverty Reduction (NPPR) to discuss the PF manifesto on health. The meeting was also attended by PF deputy secretary general Bridget Atanga, among others. postzambia/news.php?id=678
