NUSHIP Canberra, one of Australia’s two Landing Helicopter Dock - TopicsExpress

NUSHIP Canberra, one of Australia’s two Landing Helicopter Dock ships (LHD), has been at sea conducting trials for the past two weeks. She is progressing well against the schedule for delivery. Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, AO, CSC, RAN said he was pleased with Canberras progress and looked forward to the handover and commissioning in late 2014. These ships represent a large part of what the future holds for Navy. While they will deploy throughout the region, Sydney will be their homeport and we look forward to supporting them from Garden Island along with other ships in the Fleet, Vice Admiral Barrett said. Upon acceptance, NUSHIP Canberra will sail to Garden Island Dockyard (GID) in Sydney where the commissioning ceremony will occur. Pictured are graphic depictions of both ships alongside GID Sydney – an event that will occur once NUSHIP Adelaide is delivered to Navy in 2015.
