NUTHALL BURGLARY LEAVES WIDOW HEARTBROKEN Thieves who stole love letters dating back half a century, in a burglary in Nuthall, are being urged to have a heart and hand them in. Two men targeted a property on Nottingham Road on Sunday 18 January at around 12.20pm. They took a metal ‘After Eights’ tin containing sentimental notes and an antique silver cigarette case, engraved with a pattern on the lid and the inscription ‘AS to CW’ in one corner. Inside, the tin is a bronze or copper colour. The pair also took a green purse containing cash and bank cards. The victim, a woman in her 60s, was left distraught as the 10 letters were penned by her late husband and dated back to the 1960s, before they were married. The hallmarked cigarette case was also a treasured keep-sake that once belonged to her parents. Investigating officer, DC Carl Miller, said: “The offenders have caused a lot of pain for little financial gain. I’d like to hope they have a conscience and hand the stolen property in at the nearest police station. If you are approached to buy a silver case matching this description, please contact us.” The two suspects are described as white, aged 16 to 18, of slim to medium build and around 58 tall. One was wearing a grey tracksuit bottoms and a grey top, with a logo on the back and the hood pulled up. The other wore a grey top with the hood up, blue tracksuit bottoms and blue trainers. Anyone with information on this case should contact police on 101 quoting 344 of 18 Jan 2015 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
