#NUTSHELL – OCTOBER 11th — PLAYING HIDE N SEEK – Psalm 32:1-5: “Be sure your sins will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23) In the mid 1970’s our nation experienced a historical black mark on the presidency of the United States. It is commonly referred to as “Watergate” and the word today will cause the strongest politician or business owner to shiver within themselves if they are perceived as covering up something that needs openness and truthfulness, it can end a distinguished career. Yet, we are all guilty of covering up our sins. Remember Adam and Eve who after sinning against God sought to cover up their guilt with fig leaves. There are two kinds of cover ups our own effort to cover our tracks always ends in failure. Our sins find us out. David couldn’t get away with sinning against Uriah and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11), nor can we successfully hide our own faults and failures. Jesus warned, “There is nothing covered that will not be revealed” (Matthew 10:26). But there is another kind of cover up. Psalm 32 says, “Blessed is he…whose sin is covered.” When we confess our sins to God He covers them with the blood of His Son, Jesus granting cleansing pardon. “You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people” says Psalm 55:2. “You have covered all their sins.” “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13). Is there a sin you are trying to hide? Remember it is a Great Detective that is seeking the truth from our actions and attitudes. Confess it with sincere sorrow and change and let God cover it with the richness of His grace. One of the deepest deposits that God has made in our lives is to know that God forgives our sins.
