#NUTSHELL – OCTOBER 2nd — WHAT IS GOD’S WILL? – Proverbs 24:5-1: There are three aspects to the will of God to keep in mind. One is God’s sovereign will. This means that God is in control and whatever He chooses, or allows to happen in the universe is up to Him. This is mostly a mystery to us and is known only by God. Secondly, there is God’s moral will. This is revealed in Scripture and is in keeping with God’s character. An example would be stealing: stealing is contrary to God’s moral demands upon us and this never changes. The third aspect is God’s particular will -- that is God’s will for your life. Proverbs 24:5-6 may seem a bit warlike, but it’s relevant to our conversation. A leader needs several advisors when planning for war. For victory, many advisors are absolutely necessary; you have to have them. This is because you have to consider all alternatives, have as many different points of view and then make a careful choice. So to learn about the will of God, first you need to go is where you can hear a lot of different points of view from people who seek wisdom and truth: the church. The church is pretty much not up for argument. God wants us to be in relationship with His people and there are thousands of reasons for this. One reason is so that you can be with other wise Christians and in the process learn a bit more about what God’s will is for your life. A few things to keep in mind when seeking God’s will for your life: God’s will is going to be in keeping with His Word and His character. So it’s never a question whether God’s will for your life is to be a bank robber; that is not in keeping with Scripture. That is a ridiculous example, but it gives you an idea. You also need to consider your sources. Seek no advice from people who make foolish choices. Go with people who know God and His Word, and who are committed to your church. Ask a lot of people where you think they’d see you thriving in the future. Remember God speaks through His people.
