#NUTSHELL – OCTOBER 3rd — PORTABLE HOUSING – Exodus 35:4-29: A trademark is a distinctive sign or indication used by a company or individual. Every major company has a trademark, usually in the form of a logo, symbol or other visual image. Let’s test your knowledge of trademarks: the “swoosh” on shoes? Computer identified by an apple? Restaurant with Gold arches? You know the answer to all these, right? God uses trademarks too. The Old Testament Tabernacle, the one the Israelites used in the wilderness is an example of God’s trademarks. The Israelites were on the move in wilderness with no permanent worship structure. So the tabernacle took the form of an elaborate tent-structure that could be taken apart and moved. The Tabernacle was constructed to very precise specifications as given by God Himself (Exodus 35-40). It was approximately 45 feet long, 15 feet high; the west end of the interior was sectioned off as a 15 foot square room, called the Most Holy Place where the Ark of the Covenant was placed. The interior had elaborately woven curtains and the structure was covered by hides to make the tent protected from the elements. Various other articles were used by the priests in their duties: the lamp stand, table of showbread, the great bowl of washings, the altar of incense and the altar of burnt offerings. The tabernacle’s exterior courtyard was enclosed by an outer wall of tent material (like a fence). The first things we need to understand is that the tabernacle was a symbol of the only way to commune with God—salvation. For us today it means that we can only receive salvation through the One true God. Are you a trademark of God? Do you think others could identify by you as God’s Trademark as easily as they could identify the Nike trademark?
