NW GALES, MILD TEMPS, AND THEN SOME SNOW JOINS THE PARTY! Good evening all. Well once again, we have an action packed forecast on the way, as our NW flow enters its second to last day. Winds are set to rise to severe gale force tomorrow, as well as much of Saturday, before a complicated, but potentially intense cold blast moves through. Tomorrow: Expect highs to rise to 21deg once again as NW winds rise to severe gale inland, with gusts of 80-90km/h possible about Christchurch city. Watch for isolated pockets of damage inland against the foothills with gusts of 130km/h possible. Heavy rain is once again possible in the headwaters. Saturday: Conditions look very similar. Winds will be severe gale inland, gusting to 130km/h. Gusts of 80-90km/h are once again possible in Christchurch. Highs will top 20deg with the chance off some spill over rain showers into the afternoon. Sunday: During the morning a cold southerly wind will develop, as well as warm moist flow from the north. This is what we call “Warm Advection” The speed of these to air masses will depend on what level snow will fall to, as well as how much moisture there will be. However at this stage we feel that snow will fall to 300-400m with periods of wintry rain and showers to sea level. This sort of system is very difficult to forecast so the small change in path or speed of each flow could change predictions dramatically, so we will keep you updated as the information comes to hand. Leighton will be back in the morning with a look into the NW gales tomorrow, but for now, have a good night! -Josh
