Maddox, Jr. For twenty-five years, United African Movement has sponsored a lecture series which started at the Slave Theater in Brooklyn. There were two scholars --in-residence; namely Dr. John Henrik Clarke and Dr. Yosef ben-Jochannan. Blacks in the tri-state area were fortunate to have had these scholars in their midst. During this period, Gil Noble would prominently feature them on "Like It Is". This ended with the death of Gil Noble. A Euro-centered format supplanted "Like It Is". Whites have purchased the Slave Theater. United African Movement is still "hanging" on to the recognition and celebration of our past but at another venue. While the Black community is marching forward with one foot and marching backwards every two steps. United African Movement is moving forward with a lot of baggage on its back. UAM, nevertheless, embraces the rallying cry, "forward ever, backwards never". Retreat, for UAM, is not an option. On a positive note, the Freedom Party will be on the ballot on November 5. This means that all Blacks will have an opportunity to abandon "plantation politics" and pursue a Black Agenda. "A Black face in a high place" will never do the trick. The "Black Agenda" must become a fixture at City Hall. The primary intent of the Freedom Party is to raise the political consciousness of the Black community and to remove its mindset from "plantation politics". To do for self, education must precede legislation. The 2013 March on Washington insisted on defying the teachings of Malcolm X. They believe that remedial legislation, in the hands of backward voters, will solve our intractable problems. Two major goals are on the agenda in 2014. The Freedom Party intends to secure automatic ballot access. This will give the Freedom Party some political permanency and greater political leverage. There will also be a broad attack on the entire broadcasting industry in the tri-state at the FCC for practicing censorship. Medgar Evers waged this same attack in Mississippi until his assassination on June 12, 1963. This Wednesday --September 4-- at 7:00 p.m., health guru, Junior Jawara Blake, and mayoral candidate, Michael Greys, will share the stage of the Brooklyn Christian Center, 1061 Atlantic Avenue (bet. Franklin Ave. and Classon Ave.) in Brooklyn. Take the "C" train to Franklin Avenue. Walk three blocks in a well-lit and well-travelled area to Brooklyn Christian Center.
