#NYCstrangers Last week, I was riding the crowded subway and an unsuspecting woman came on the train. She was well-dressed and she had the littlest voice, but she managed to say Excuse me loudly enough that everyone listened. She then proceeded to sincerely apologize for bothering us and claimed that she had just lost her job and was looking for another, but in the meantime, she was going to sing in the Lords name for money to buy groceries for her and her son. She apologized another time to us, and then made the Sign of the Cross. She was standing right in front of me and I heard her quietly to herself, Lord, help me. While it was her unassuming, timid voice that caught our attention, when she opened her mouth, we were all blown away. She sang like this boy did here, with her eyes closed and her hands clasped to her chest, swaying to herself. The voice was loud and strong and powerful. Everyone couldnt help but listen, and I dont know what came over me, but screw everything, I started tearing right there. I couldnt help it, even though the car was crowded as hell and everyone could see me. I cry when Im overwhelmed, and this woman was singing from her soul, with enough faith to move mountains. It was as clear as this video here. She sang for maybe 20-30 seconds. When she finished, she crossed herself again, and everyone in the crowded train car clapped for her as she apologized sheepishly another time and thanked us for listening. A woman standing behind her tapped her on the back and gave her a long hug, saying to her, You dont have to apologize to us, sweetie. Have faith, and the Lord will provide for you and your son. I offered my money, and when she saw me crying, she bent down to give me a hug. Dear, come here, she said. I said into her ear, You have a beautiful voice. SO many people on that train gave her money. It was one of those beautiful moments that I feel only NYC can provide. And even though Ill never know her again, God will take care of her, positively or negatively based on your own personal opinion.
