NYTimes A1 Analysis: Obama Administration “Scandals” Eroded Faith In Government In a front-page article, the New York Times reports that when he took office in 2009, President Obama “set out to restore society’s frayed faith in its public institutions,” but “six years later, Americans seem more dubious than ever.” According to the Times, “With every passing week or month, it seems, some government agency...has had a misstep or has been caught up in scandals that have deeply eroded public confidence.” As examples of these “missteps” and “scandals,” the Times cites the IRS “target[ing] political groups, the Border Patrol [being]...overwhelmed by children illegally crossing the Rio Grande,’” the VA wait list cover-up and the failings of the Secret Service. The Times notes that Obama “remains at or near his lowest approval ratings, with his handling of various matters called into question by many voters.”
