Na Marama Vasu Levu walked into the Family courthouse today this early morning...and as I sat in the empty waiting room... mind raced back to those busy days when I had to fight the system. An hour later I walked across to the child support agency and requested a complaint resolution form at the counter. I was told that someone will come out to speak with me. Its been a long while since I had to take care of family issues with government agencies... official: How may I assist you ? me: I would like a Request complaint resolution form. official: I believe you have an issue with one of our staff. me: Oh !..I just told your collegue that a lady had called me twice already. Once to inform me of what to expect and that I would now have to pay child support. The second time a week later she calls me again on a restricted number and reminded me about the court order. I felt harrased as I explained to her that I had just received the paperwork a few days ago and have 30 days to respond. I have read and understood what I read. official: explains its procedure to have staff make follow up calls me: but that is not what I am here for official: keeps silent me: I have thirty days to fill out the required forms sent to me and I have a choice to make a complaint. I wish to make a complaint official: seems uncomfortable and keeps trying to distract me from talking about the complaint form. me: paused, and finally said,...I want you to understand where I stand on this issue of paying child support. Do you need me to fill these forms or would rather I fill the request complaint form ? official: ruffles through paperwork that Im suppose to complete. Just sign this one... Case closed ! I walked out feeling relieved and what a victory...though it didnt seem so obvious, for the agency staff ...its probably the first for them that a person could walk free from the tentacles of Federal and State agencies with its huge database. Hours later, ex calls and says.. dont need to worry now...they have settled it... I thought to myself...what an asshole... I just saved his ass too and he thought he saved mine. I thought of one of my favourites movie that Sean Connery and Catherine-Zeta- Jones acted in - Entrapment...... The bitter sweet moments of life.
