Na Ruwaito Daga Bilya G Aliyu During the Sallah celebrations (EID) of 1788, the King of Gobir Kingdom Bawa Jangwarzo, invited all the Scholars for a special celebrations and Walimah in his palace, and among them was the Shehu Usman Danfodio. When they came, Bawa Jangwarzo distributed alot of gifts to them, and Shehus gifts was the highest! Because he wanted to attract his attention and make him a venal scholar. But Shehu said thank you i dont need it. However i have some requests. The King Bawa Jangwarzo said what are your requests? Shehu made some requests which centered around solving societal problems: (1) Give me opportunity to freely preach to people. (2) Leave people feel free to practice their faith. (3) Treat anyone with respect irrespective of his social and cultural background. (4) Free all political prisoners. (5) Remove the burden of taxation against the masses. This is the real religious scholar not our contemporary materialistically predisposed religious leaders. May the soul of Shehu continue to Rest In Peace.
