(Nader al-Masris) request to enter Israel… has been denied in accordance with a restrictive policy regarding the entry of Gaza Strip residents to Israel, Judge Dafna Barak-Erez wrote in the verdict. The verdict states that al-Masris request is not based on humanitarian needs. One may hope that in the future the defense situation would improve and that the policy would become more permissive, Barak-Erez wrote, noting that the policy does have a special clause permitting the activity of the Palestinian soccer team. She added that similar policies should be considered for other sports, as well. Nevertheless, she writes, in the current circumstances, we cannot assist (al-Masri).
