Nairobi public commuter vehicle amazes me, light showers suddenly influence fare to astronomical levels despite the constants. I walk onto stage and find a seething mass of commuters, every Matatu that arrives is charging upwards of 70 bob for a distance that costs max 50 bob on the most gridlocked hours. a trickle of hurried passengers fill up as more resilient and stubborn Kenyans hold back. Under 10 minutes later, and given the general Kenyan impatient, more enterprising touts cannot withstand the delay in filling up the Matatu, so the fare is lowered to 50 bob, but still the stubborn Kenyans dont barge, few who are in a hurry board. under 20 minutes later, the fare is 20 bob. so my whole cost is a whole behavioral culture that prods me into why and how questions, and 20 minutes of delay. all because of light showers, distance remaining constant and the exit road all clear.
