Lyca won not only the ‘Voice Kids’ Prizes, but also global hearts By MANILA – 9-year-old Lyca Gairanod emerged as the first ever grand champion of ABS-CBN’s The Voice Kids Philippines, winning a recording contract with MCA Universal, a P1 million cash prize, a house and lot from Camella Homes, a musical instrument package, a home appliance package, among many other prizes. Lyca and her family were so overwhelmed and the little girl could not thank her supporters enough. The tears of joy just flowed freely especially as she apparently realized that changes are to happen into their life now. In an interview with ABS-CBN News shortly after her victory, Lyca said her tears were because she realized that her family can now have a house: “Maraming, maraming salamat po kay Jesus. Thank you po na pinanalo n’yo po ako. Mama, hindi na tayo maghihirap. Nanalo na ako sa ‘The Voice Kids.’ Naiisip ko po ‘yung kapatid kong naiwan at ‘yung kapatid ko rin pong namatay. Bibili po kami ng bahay.” When she was reminded that a house and lot were among her prizes, Lyca swiftly said: “Bibili na lang po kami ng kung anong gusto po ng mga kapatid ko.” (Then we’ll buy what my siblings want.) More than the prizes, what Lyca won was a lot of hearts. She was even compared to Nora Aunor who also had humble beginnings; thus, she was called the “little superstar.” Browsing the four Lyca Gairanod pages on Facebook alone, she has almost 200K likes, and had many people voting for her and praying, then celebrating with her; basing from posted comments. To quote a commenter, “seeing Lyca put her heart into her singing with The Voice Kids pulled people towards her”; not just locally, but globally. The Lyca Gairanod International page alone had posted photos of several celebrations across the miles. Admin Jazzy of Toronto, Canada spearheaded the LYCANATICS INTERNATIONAL, and even urged OFW Lyca supporters to post their country of location which covered Hong Kong, Japan, New York, Singapore, Taiwan, Dubai, Thailand, Kuwait, Copenhagen Denmark, Saudi, Riyadh, Lebanon, Cyprus,Ammam Jordan, Brunei Darussalam, Israel, Spain, Qatar, Toronto, Vancouver, Istanbul Turkey, Galway Ireland, Beirut, Korea, Oman, London, California, Al khobar, London, Grand Cayman Uk, West Virginia, Switzerland, Kuala lumpur, Quebec, Bahrain, Los Angeles, Greece, Oman, Edmonton, India, Paris, and many more (arranged as posted). Lyca’s fans followed her Voice journey together. And it’s not even Lyca’s concert yet.
