Nakchyang Rimpoche takes over Rongo Gumba PRADIP LOHAGUN, KALIMPONG, 6 Aug 2014: Nakchyang Rimpoche has been appointed as the new head of Rongo Dichen Pema Choiling Gumpa in Rongo, Kalimpong. Starting today, the Rimpoche will take care of the Gumpa’s conservation, management and renovation works. After taking over the Gumpa administration Nakchyang Rimpoche also laid the foundation stone of a new section, while the name of the monastery has been changed to Pema Baiseng Yog Choiling Gumpa. The Rimpoche also felicitated the Gumpa working committee members, including Naku Sherpa, Dhan Tshering Sherpa, Dilman Gurung, SB Rai and Gomchen Sherpa among others. The function was also marked by cultural performances by various different communities from Rongo. The Rongo Gumpa was established during the 1970s and was later reestablished as Rongo Dichen Pema Choiling Gumpa. Following the death of the last Rimpoche, the Gumpa has been running as a general Gumpa and its condition has been deteriorating continuously ever since. However, with the takeover of the monastery by Nakchyang Rimpoche, the devotees and locals are hopeful of a fresh start for the holy Buddhist shrine. Gumpa committee member, Jai Kumar Gurung, said the Rongo Gumpa has a deep historical significance for the locals and the committee is happy its management has been handed over to the able hands of Nakchyang Rimpoche. “We are hopeful the renovation and the construction of the new section of the Gumpa would be completed soon and emerge as a new religious tourism destination in the hills,” Gurung added.
