Nakuru Clergy Denounce Cord Calls For Mass Action By Kelvin Waweru June 16 2014 A section of the clergy and Kikuyu elders from Nakuru County have reacted to the Cord coalition’s call for mass action to push for a national dialogue and urged Kenyans to ignore the calls and remain peaceful. In a joint statement issued in Nakuru town today, the clergy led by Bishop Abraham Gitu, said Cord coalition should embrace patriotism and seek alternative ways of engaging the government instead of inciting the masses. Bishop Gitu said the church commands a big following estimated to be 80 percent of the population, whom he observed were against demonstrations that could easily stir animosity adding that the church will always preach peace. The chairman of the Kikuyu council of elders in the county James Nene said that the elders could play an advisory role to the youth to refrain from engaging in demonstrations that could easily land them in problems. He advised Cord as opposition to play its oversight role responsibly.
