Nanny G helped mum Claire with a challenge of emotional crisis - TopicsExpress

Nanny G helped mum Claire with a challenge of emotional crisis each time she dropped her daughter off for care... Initially she thought she needed to change her child care arrangements, and felt highly stressed and concerned for her child... Quickly we were able to work out a solution that worked immediately... Here is what she just sent Nanny G... Nanny G for your page: I wanted to take few moments to share some outcomes from our recent conversations about helping my daughter settle and enjoy her whole day care experience. By whole I mean the drive there and drop off since I knew with certainty that she had a great time once I had gone!! Getting clearer about my needs in the experience certainly helped being in the best state to help her settle. That and accepting that many of our pre-chosen paths were now NOT in alignment with our lifes reality! I am not able to be her exclusive 24/7 carer without some kind of break given Dad works away and there are no family in Australia. And I dont want to control her every life experience I want to help teach her to learn from others too. Best of all in our experience was creating a Story Board, a cartoon of her day care days. The point being to give her clarity about how the day would be, the reassurance that mumma always comes back and to make the experience as a whole more familiar when she isnt there whilst she becomes more comfortable with the process. I was stunned at how quickly she took ownership of this story she referred to it several times by herself and then read it to anyone whod listen!! She took with her for the first week (2 visits) but swiftly theyve been discarded and are no longer needed. Sure she loves being with me and might prefer to do so but on our 3rd trip there were no tears, no fuss just a couple of expressed feelings done calmly that I was able to address rather than have to crisis manage. The Story Board Concept has been something weve shared with others who have used it to help their kids with tricky situations not just day care issues. I know you said that being in state and focussed would likely take care of the difficulties but the activity of the cartoon gave us a lovely activity together and a wonderful tool for the future. Thank you so much for having time to help us.
