Nasarawa Impeachment: Panel submits report to Assembly through High Court Muhammad Ahmad - 13 hours agoNORTH CENTRAL, REGIONAL, TOP NEWS A seven-man panel constituted by the Nasarawa State Chief Judge, Suleiman Dikko, to investigate a 16-count impeachment charges against the governor, Umaru Almakura, has submitted its report to the state House of Assembly, through the state High Court. The lawmakers, who raised the allegations against the governor, had rejected the investigative panel claiming that its members who were drawn by the Chief Judge, were allies of the governor. The lawmakers eventually rejected the panel’s report which cleared the governor. Sources told PREMIUM TIMES that the report was submitted to the assembly by the State High Court bailiff. The state assembly had rejected the panel and called for its reconstitution, arguing that the appointed members were politicians and government employees, an alleged contravention of the section 188 of the constitution. The report was submitted last Monday around shortly before the arrival of the state lawmakers to resume sitting has three volumes, officials said. The first volume of the report, which has the main details, has seven pages while two other volumes are appendices of the Executive defence and attached documents. Sources said the Clerk of the House, Ego Maikeffi, who was earlier reluctant to receive the document, later accepted them after consulting with the lawmakers who were on their way to the assembly complex from Abuja. When contacted, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Maikeffi, onfirmed receipt of the report from a court bailiff from the state high court.
