Nasarawa State restates commitment to youth programmes-NAN The Nasarawa State Government has restated its commitment to initiate more youths and women empowerment programmes in its effort to fight unemployment and poverty in the state. Mr Daniel Ogazzi, the Chairman, Nasarawa State Youths Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), stated this in Nasarawa when he handed over 100 NAYES marshals to the Nasarawa Local Government Area Authorities. He said that the handing over of some NAYES marshals to the local government authorities had become imperative in order to ensure their full utilisation and to enable them to contribute their quota to the development of the state. Ogazzi said ``as we are all aware that there is high rate of unemployment, youth restiveness and poverty in the country today, people should not continue to wait for white-collar jobs but should embrace different skills in order to be self reliant. ``Gov. Tanko Al-makura has done and is still doing his best to reduce the rate of unemployment, youths restiveness, poverty in the state that is why the state government has trained over 1,470 youths as sanitary inspectors, community watchers and traffic marshals. ``The training of these youths is to assist the government in ensuring healthy environment, security in the state and to decongest traffic on our roads, as well as to enable them to be self reliant and to contribute their quota to national development. The chairman said that the state government would continue to initiate more youths empowerment programme in order to train the youths in different skills to reduce unemployment, poverty and other vices in the state. Ogazzi said the handing over of the marshals to the local government authorities was to ensure that the youths were fully engaged in order to meet up with the purpose of governments huge investment in the scheme for the benefit of all. Mr Murtala Adogi, the states Coordinator of the programme, said that the aim of the youth empowerment programme was to fight negative tendencies among unemployed youths and women in the state. He said all hands must be on deck to improve the living condition of youths, adding that youths were the pillar of every society. Mr Tijani Ahmed, the Chairman, Nasarawa local government area, commended the foresight of the state government in training the youths in different skills and called for its sustenance. Ahmed, who was represented by Mr Ayuba Usman, the Deputy Chairman of the local government, promised to support the scheme in order to fight youth unemployment, poverty and vices for the overall development of the state and the country at large.
