National Dowsyndrome awareness day is 3/21 and I want to talk about why this is so special for me and has changed my life. It was November 26th and I had a very fast delivery with no pain meds also I had surgery right after giving birth. I woke on the morning of November 27th and was asked to please come in the nursery with the Doctors. I new something was wrong at that moment, I was asked to sit down and take a deep breathe I was told my sweet baby was showing all the signs of having downsyrome and although we needed to confirm with genetic testing the team was 99% positive this was a fact. I burst into tears and made a phone call to his father and could barley talk my heart sunk down and the fear and sadness took over. I asked what I did to him being unaware of what causes downsyrome the nurses assured me It was not my fault. I asked at that moment to be taken off any pain meds I needed a clear head to make to take all this in. We stayed in the hospital four days,talked to social workers and specialized doctors then went home. I stood in his nursery crying and grief stricken mourning the child I thought I would have. A few days passed and I asked God why would you pick me to care for this child I will never be able to do this??? Especially after so much research on the internet. and 80% of them have open heart surgery. I thought I cant do this.His father and I took him to the cardiologist and it was confirmed he would not need open heart surgery and his muscle tone was great. I new then I could and would do this. Kingston and I were loved and supported by so many and still are today. It has been a journey sometimes very difficult and many decisions made along the way,however it is an amazing journey to be his mother and Im grateful God chose me to be his mommy. I get so much love and laughter from him and Im the voice he needs in his life. Kingston you are incredible and I look forward to our journey foward Im so blessed you my son:)
