National Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week continues and youve most definitely responded! Thank you for starting some dialogue and asking some questions like WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT IT?! 1.) Become an Advocate! Share! Share posts and info from PCM and other community partners with your family, friends, and co-workers. Also, get involved in your local government, speak with officials, go to city and county meetings, etc., and let them know this issues are important! 2.) Volunteer! There are lots of great community organizations that can really use your help, no matter how much or how little time you have to share. This is also a great way to learn more about the needs in our community. 3.) Donate resources! Paducah is very fortunate to have many agencies, including PCM, in place to serve these vulnerable populations, but we and they need your help! Do you have extra food in your pantry that you aren’t going to use? If so, CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATE PLEASE, and then donate it to one of the food pantries. Or pick up a few extra grocery items on your next shopping trip. Have extra blankets, pillows, dishes, etc., that you don’t need? Donate those to a shelter. Getting a new couch because you’re sick of looking at the old one? If it’s still in good shape, PCM could give it to one of the households transitioning out of our shelter into a home of their own. 4.) Donate money! If you are blessed with a little extra in your finances this week, but don’t have time to go the store to buy a few canned goods, then donate to PCM or one of the other agencies, and we will put it to good use! Every donation makes a difference in a life.
