National Nazrul Conference begins in Barisal Nazrul Institute takes out a colourful procession in Barisal city on the occasion of National Nazrul Conference on Friday.SUN photo BARISAL: Speakers at a programme on Friday urged the people to spread the message of rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam who fought against the exploiters with his pen. Nazrul played a leading role in establishing the rights of the exploited and marginalised people, they said. They were addressing a two-day divisional level National Nazrul Conference at Aswini Kumar Hall in the city. The programme was organized by Nazrul Institute under the ministry of cultural affairs. Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner, Barisal presided over the inaugural programme. Among others, Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam, professor emeritus and chairman of Nazrul Institute Trustee Board, Rashid Haider, executive director of Nazrul Institute, advocate Talukdar Md Yunus, AL lawmaker, Mahbuba Mushkur, joint secretary of the cultural ministry and advocate SM Iqbal, a cultural activist, addressed the event. Earlier, a procession was brought out from the Central Shaheed Minar which ended at the conference venue.
