NationalMirror Fashola to LASTMA: Focus on traffic flow, not arrest by MURITALA AYINLA on Nov 20, 2013 | Posted under: News Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) yesterday reminded personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) of the main objective of the agency. Fashola said the primary objective of the agency was to ensure free vehicular movement, asking the personnel to focus on the free flow of traffic in the state metropolis rather than arrest of erring motorists. Reacting to the circulation of a video clip in the social media showing a junior LASTMA personnel demanding N8, 000 bribe from a motorist for violating traffic law, the governor said the suspect would be arrested for prosecution. He confirmed that the suspect had been on the run since the day he committed the offence. The governor assured Lagos residents that the suspect will be brought to justice to serve as deterrent to others. Fashola said rather than allowing the enforcement of the law to generate traffic gridlock on highways, the personnel should instead allow offenders to go so as not to defeat the purpose for which the agency was established. He spoke at the induction of the new Special Traffic Mayor and Meeting with LASTMA personnel held at the LTV8 Blue Roof, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
