Native people continue to grapple with the effects of assimilation policies ..some of which resulted in mass deaths over time since contact. Today we are still bombarded with research that promote measures using western culture standards. One of the greatest enablers to continue racist policies it to use the euro-Canadian structures to base criteria of how a different culture should improve. The settler society placed themselves over Indigenous lands and now we are told they bring us opportunities using our resources and lands, that indeed is the cement of settler colonial mentality.
