Native people have always been criminalized for asserting themselves. The RCMP and the military are about protecting the canadian state and their interests on our lands. As Indigenous people, we are considered enemies of the state because we threaten the legitimacy of Canada having been created on stolen native land. We threaten the idea that Canada is fair and free. We have never been free to be who are are.....only when the state sanctions us to do so. That flag represents native sovereignty and thats why it was removed so quickly. Why would it be allowed at an event that celebrates state domination over our lands and people? Its infuriating, but its the truth about our relationship with the state of so called canada. The sooner people understand, the sooner things can change from believing we live in a free and fair country where indigenous peoples are free to be who they are. Nobody would ever stand up and celebrate or honour our warriors who protect our nations and lands. Our warriors have just as much courage, they sacrifice just as much, except they are fighting for a just cause. They are fighting for the well-being of all living things.
