Native title offer will go to the vote Gerry Georgatos The Stringer November 8th, 2014 The Western Australia Premier, Colin Barnett, has applauded that the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council (SWALSC) is ready to take the Government’s $1.3 billion native title package to the Noongar peoples. But there is both widespread dissent and apathy among Noongars, with a low voter turnout expected to work in favour of the Government’s native title package while never really telling the real story of the extensive dissatisfaction. If the State’s native title offer is picked up by Noongars then it will eventuate in the relinquishing of the right to native title claims by clan and family groups. According to Noongar Elder Helen Corbett, the native title proposal “is asking for our people to sell out our Country from under the soles of our feet.” … Prominent Noongar, Dennis Eggington, who is CEO of the Aboriginal Legal Services Western Australia, said the offer “is unfair.” thestringer.au/native-title-offer-will-go-to-the-vote-9042#.VF_a3JG4aUk
