Natural to the new you in Christ? Are there things you want to see - TopicsExpress

Natural to the new you in Christ? Are there things you want to see become good habits, second nature that you do without even having to stop and think to do them? If so, it will take some work on your part to learn to be who and what you are in Christ. “Now stop your sinning, reform your ways and your actions and obey the LORD your God.” Jeremiah 26:13a – first you need to stop any sin you are holding to, plan your actions to develop new good habits. You are not reforming the old man, but training the new man, the new creation you are in Christ. For example, “flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” 2 Timothy 2:22 is a good scripture to memorize and start with. I recently heard a story about a Missionary couple recently back into the USA from Africa where they serve. He needed items at Walmart, went in got them, came back out to the car and gets in to drive off, but something is wrong. His wife said, “You know you are used to living in a foreign country when you climb in the vehicle to drive and realize you are sitting in the passengers seat.” He did this and quickly realized the problem. He was back in the USA and we drive on the right. He said he “proceeded to act like he was looking for something on that side of the vehicle, then climbed out and went to the other side.” It is a funny story and good for a laugh, but it also illustrates the point of something becoming “second nature” where you don’t even think about it. Driving and which door we get in is just one of those things we do without thinking. It is a habit and after they are back here awhile he will get in the habit of getting in on the left side – about the time it is time for their return to Africa. As Christians there are some things that for us should be habits like this too; ones we don’t think about but just do. Some of those are things like prayer, reading our bible and studying our bible. However there is one that is so very important, but that very few Christians do. We are to be making disciples as we go through our life, but the first step is to share the Gospel and see them saved. Sharing the Gospel may take minutes, days or years depending on the person, your relationship to them and where they are in their response to God’s pursuit of them. You may plant a seed or water one someone else has planted or be there when God brings it to harvest, but you need to naturally share your faith as you go through your day. I confess that way too often I only realize after the time has passed that I had an opportunity to in some way share Jesus. Join me in making a conscious effort to turn sharing into a part of your life that is so natural you don’t have to think about it. Right now I fail way to often and I could get discouraged, but I see that I do share more and more and that I am not satisfied with not being consistent and I will get better. It will take intentional effort and planning and practice on your part too. I pray you, and I realize one day soon that “getting in on the right side of that car” has become a good habit.
