Nature Awareness 4/30/2014 - Capybara The capybara is the worlds heaviest rodent. It has partially webbed toes and eyes, ears, and nose placed high on top its head so that it can see, hear, and smell while swimming. In fact, it is an excellent swimmer and diver in rivers, lakes, and swamps. The capybara is known to form a variety of groupings that can include male-female pairs, families with young, and mixed herds. This animal is interesting also because it tends to have a somewhat regimented daily routine. Capybaras like to rest in the morning hours and then wallow during the midday heat, and then in the evening they feed on water plants, buds and soft tree bark. Finally, the capybara rests again around midnight and resumes feeding towards dawn. In South America the capybara has come to symbolize many different traits based on its lifestyle and naturalist observations. It is readily associated with regularity, routine, and consistency due to the almost precise schedule this animal will attempt to keep. People looking to become more consistent and reliable in their work and daily schedule would do well to study and meditate for connection with the capybara and its energetic patterns. In addition, this animal is also associated with relaxation or a more relaxed pace in achieving goals, which is a healthy means for any lifestyle. The capybara is also known as a totem to bring a rooted earth energy for the time it spends on land as well as a balanced and routed water energy since it is such an excellent swimmer and spends a good deal of each day in the water. Also, capybara creates a family of its own choosing and does not feel the need to conform to any standardized social unit present, not even within its own species. So, if traditional family values and structures are not for you and/or you are looking to build your own family unit, then consider working with the energetics of the capybara in this endeavor. Capybara brings a message today... Time is precious and no day should be squandered. Every day should be enjoyed and within that enjoyment you should accomplish something of importance to you. Symbolism: routine, consistency, rooted earth energy, relaxation, balanced water energy, choice, mixed social groups.
