Ncell, NT offer aid to disaster hit KATHMANDU, AUG 23 - Leading telecommunication companies—Ncell and Nepal Telecom—have provided the Rs 200 million and Rs 20 million, respectively, to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to help rehabilitate victims of natural disasters. Ncell CEO Erim Taylanlar and NT Chairman Sunil Bahadur Malla separately handed over the cheques on behalf of their companies to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Friday. Ncell said in a press release on Friday the financial support was provided as per its corporate social responsibility initiative. “We have been deeply concerned at the loss of lives and infrastructures across the country due to flood, landslide and other natural disasters in various parts of the country. We hope this contribution from our side will help the Government to expedite the rescue and relief on the affected areas,” said Taylanlar. A few weeks ago, Ncell had provided Rs 1 million to help the people affected by landslide and flood in Sindhupalchok district. The support to the disaster-hit people was provided via the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee, Sindhupalchok, headed by the Chief District Officer. In Sindhupalchok, Ncell had also provided bonus talk time to the customers affected by landslide and flood to ensure they have access to smooth communication in the affected areas. “Now that the news of such natural disaster have poured in from different other parts of the country, we have contributed additional two hundred million rupee to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to reach out to the needy people,” said Sanju Koirala, corporate communication director of Ncell. According to NT, the relief fund was collected from staff, members of the board and the company’s fund.
