Need to vent about our countrys health care system that leaves so much to be desired. Ive heard more than enough complaints about the Affordable Care Act -- dont want to hear any here. We need universal health care, the ACA is a place to begin making some changes to a system that has historically failed so many. I help a 60+ year old man who DOES have insurance -- Medicare/Medicaid. He has a medical problem that needs attention his insurance wont cover. If we could get insurance to cover help with skin care twice each day (7 days/wk), we might be able to avoid the astronomical costs of hospitalization/skilled nursing facility (SNF). But, home health care isnt an option because he is not truly homebound. He cant afford to pay privately. Ive done case management - I know the options, or lack thereof. This guy has no family, no close friends to help. He has some Medicaid-covered services at home but needs more than twice what is allowed. If the condition gets worse, I suspect hospitalization will be the next step, with SNF follow up until theres an all clear. We could save ourselves so much money if we all stopped fighting about Obamacare and started working for the common good!
